Using Beer To Remove Coffee Stains From Carpet
Coffee can make anyone’s lazy day turn exciting and fresh. On the other hand, coffee can be an ingredient to an awful moment if accidentally spilled on a beautiful carpet. We all heard about using water with vinegar or mild dish soap to lift off coffee stain from carpets. These home DIY remedies have worked wonders.
But what if in a rare opportunity, you found yourself in a situation where these home carpet cleaning solutions are not available? Say you are in a dormitory room pulling an all-nighter while your roommate is relaxing with a can of cold beer?
Well, you are in luck! Beer is an excellent coffee stain remover. The alcohol content of beer is the magic, or should I say, the active ingredient that helps lift off the coffee mark from your precious rug. Just remember to use it sparingly, or else the beer could stain the carpet instead of clean it.
Here’s how it works:
- As soon as the coffee hits your carpet, grab a clean paper towel or cloth and dab it on the coffee spill to absorb as much liquid as you can. Ideally, you should use white colored sheets or fabric to ensure that it will not bleed color on the carpet as you dab. Also, blot the stain from the outside going to the center to avoid spreading the coffee stain.
- Pour about a teaspoon of beer on the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes then continue dabbing the stain using a clean cloth. Do not allow the beer to seep through the backing of your carpet. You may need to repeat this step a couple of times until the irritating coffee mark is gone
- Rinse off the portion you cleared with clean water. Use a moist sponge or cloth to remove the remaining beer on the carpet. Leaving it there unrinsed will leave sugars that could attract more dirt.
- Dry the carpet thoroughly.
